Come On, Ring Those Bells
Performed by The Tabernacle Choir & Orchestra at Temple Square, with Kristin Chenoweth
Although this high-spirited Christmas song has a distinct “country” feel to it, “Come On, Ring Those Bells” was actually composed by an Englishman, and popularized by the daughter of Norwegian immigrants. Originally from Somerset in England, Andrew Culverwell studied acting before realizing he had a knack for writing tunes. For a time he was a member of a contemporary Christian music group in England before he embarked on a solo recording career and moved to the United States. Culverwell wrote this song in 1976, and the following year it was recorded by Evelyn Tornquist Karlsson, who enjoyed a very successful career in Christian and gospel music under the professional name of “Evie.” The song was included on her 1977 Christmas album, also titled Come On, Ring Those Bells, which was nominated for a Grammy Award.
